About the event

This four-session course is an introduction to Person Centered Thinking and the bedrock of person centered approaches and is consistent with HCBS requirements. To receive a Certificate of Attendance, participants will engage in all sessions outlined below:

This training provides participants with the basic knowledge of how to facilitate the use of the skills and tools to support others. Participants will develop their descriptions using the skills and tools. Changing your thinking is the first step to person centered planning.

The skills offer specific methods to discover information that identifies what is important to a person and what is important for a person. This discovery process leads to finding the balance between important to and for, which serves as the basis for creating a description of a person that leads to action planning and supports people in having better lives, not just better-written plans.

This course is suitable for anyone supporting people living with with disabilities, long-term health impacts, and other conditions, including professionals, parents, and support staff.

The Learning Community envisions a world where all people have positive control over the lives they have chosen for themselves. Our efforts focus on people who have lost or may lose positive control because of society's response to the presence of a disability or other conditions. This site helps us foster a global learning community that shares knowledge for that purpose. All are welcome here to share and learn.

Prerequisites:

  • Willingness to learn and grow and actively participate.
  • We highly recommend that each participant have their own tablet or computer and not be in the same room      as another participant.
  • Using a phone is strongly discouraged as you cannot fully participate in the activities.
  • Each participant will be encouraged to engage in immersive experiences, including participation in "breakout" groups. Trudy will rotate through groups to ensure that you receive her support. Be prepared to have a few laughs and maybe shed a few tears.
  • Access to the materials will be made available to participants and Trudy will "drop" documents      into the chat box during sessions to ensure that participants have full access to materials.

What attendees say about this training!

"This was by far the best training I have had in my career. It has changed the way I will interact with my clients and how issues will be dealt with. It was VERY beneficial. I don't know if this training would have been as beneficial without Trudy, our trainer. She is excellent."

"After the training, I feel very confident and have a deeper knowledge in understanding a person."

"Thank you so much, Trudy, for making this program such an enjoyable experience! I thought you blended humor, care, and presence in such a compelling way."
